Member Spotlight - Zorian Thornton

How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club? 

I’ve been a member since fall of 2019.

What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym? 

I love the squat racks, weights and the elliptical for cardio.

Why do you work out? 

I love the sports of powerlifting and bodybuilding in general — but I joined BHC and started to exercise and watch my eating a lot more consistently to help reduce stress and to lead a healthier life overall. I do love building muscle and strength but the mental benefits are key for me.

What do you do to work out?

I usually stick to a powerlifting and bodybuilding style of training, usually focused on compound lifts and machines for accessory exercises. I also try to do a good job of doing 30 mins of cardio (whether it’s the elliptical, stationary bike, Stairmaster or even just taking a walk) as well.

What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals?

The biggest things that have worked for me at BHC: management handling the peak pandemic days so well so that I could feel safe while also working towards my goals during the worst parts of the pandemic and management continuously looking for ways to improve member experience. The new equipment added over the last few months has been awesome and worked its way into my weekly program!

Why do you choose to work out at BHC?

To be 100% honest, I chose BHC because it was the closest gym to my apartment. I moved across the country right after college and just wanted to find a gym that wasn’t super expensive and within walking distance that had everything I needed. I have stayed at BHC since because of the management and staff being super nice and helpful, the 24hr access that fits my wonky schedule, and the friendships I’ve been able to make at the gym.

Anything else you'd like to add?

BHC is a super nice place to work out and pursue better health overall. I’ve really loved chatting with and meeting other members over the last three years! Hopeful to make new friends for as long as I remain a member at the club.
