Member Spotlight - Si Win

How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club? 

I have been a member at Ballard Health Club since February of 2022.

What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym? 

I do a lot of barbell exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, and overhead press. Those are the 4 main lifts I perform during my workouts.

Why do you work out? 

I try to maintain the mindset to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually everyday. Working out has been my approach to improving myself physically. As I've gotten older, I've started to question if my physical limits are actual limits or ones I have set for myself through my own thinking and narrative. I've been lucky to have worked out with wonderful trainers in my life, that have shown me I am capable of doing more than I think I am.  In this life, I have this body, and I'm excited to see what it's capable of.

I also enjoy working out with my dad who is 72 and showing him he is capable of doing more than he thinks he is at his age. :)

What do you do to work out?

Currently, I am doing a strength based workout, where I am trying to get stronger in my 4 core lifts of squats, deadlifts, bench press, and overhead press. I will do one of those lifts whenever I am at the gym and will follow that up with some auxiliary work to become stronger in those lifts. I focus on those 4 lifts because I believe they are the foundation for a strong functional body. I'm also interested in calisthenics, to be able to perform movements I haven't been able to before such as muscle ups, handstands, and planche push ups.

What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals?

For a locally owned, community gym, BHC is a wonderful facility that has all the equipment I need to train the way I want. The staff and members are friendly, and put me in the right mindset to be productive in the gym.

Why do you choose to work out at BHC?

When I first moved to Seattle, back in February, I wanted to find a gym that was close to where I lived. After touring all the neighboring gyms, BHC was the perfect gym for me in terms of price, location, and equipment. Over time I've gotten to know the staff and patrons, and it's been a wonderful community.

Anything else you'd like to add?

If you see me in the gym, please don't hesitate to stop and say hi! I'm genuinely passionate about working out and getting to know people. Also, being new to the city, I'm always looking for tips for what to do in the city!
