How long have you been a member of Ballard Health Club?

A little over a year.  Long enough that I know where everything is, but still occasionally wander around like I forgot why I walked in.

What motivates you to workout and stay active?

I like having a goal to chase.  Trying to make the time on the ski erg go down is like playing a game, but one I can actually get better at a little at a time.

What does your typical workout look like at the club?

I spend enough time on the erg that I’m pretty sure it knows my secrets.  I usually lift only after I'm done with whatever cardio I'm doing.

What in the club has worked for you in attaining your fitness goal?

Having Ian as a trainer made a huge difference. He kept me accountable, built a real plan, and fixed my form to reduce the chances that I'd injure myself. There is no chance I would've been competitive without his help.

Why do you choose to be a member at BHC, and what keeps you coming back?

I ran past BHC for about 20 years before finally joining, so clearly I like to take my time with big decisions. But I love the vibe and the familiar faces. And the Friday evening DJ sessions were great!

Do you have a favorite piece of equipment, class or exercise at the club?

I took Ian's "Intro to erging" class last summer, and that really got me started on the path to competing.  My favorite equipment is (not shocking) the ergs - I guess "R1" is my favorite, but don't tell the other two.
