Matt AndersonMatt has been with Ballard health club since 2001. Matt has a history of playing sports – football, basketball and track in high school, and a couple of years of college football. He got into power lifting to fill a void after he stopped playing football, leading to A.A.U. power lifting events and N.P.C. bodybuilding shows. After reconstructive knee surgery, Matt retired from body building in 2002. Through body building, Matt found he was able to lose a lot of weight he hadn’t realized he had gained since college. He became a personal trainer so that he could help people make their own life changing transformations. When Matt isn’t training at BHC, he loves playing recreational flag football, softball, rock climbing, and motorcycle-riding to name a few.

Justin McGowanJustin recently became Ballard Health Club’s General Manager, but he has been a fitness trainer with BHC since 2000. Although he’d played sports in school, Justin’s interest in fitness didn’t really take off until 1996, when he tried to quit smoking. He figured that if he worked out and started feeling healthier, it would be easier to quit smoking for good. And it worked. Justin became a fitness trainer for two main reasons. First, in the course of his own training, he had researched and learned so much information that he thought would be very useful to others. And second, he wanted to help people design workouts that would minimize their risk of injury. Justin injured his ankle pretty badly a few years ago, and the long rehabilitative process gave him a new appreciation for injury prevention. When he’s not at the club, Justin writes, produces, and directs independent films. His latest film is currently in international distribution.
