How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club?

I've been a member since July 31, 1999; just over 20 years.  I had worked out previously at a more corporate club, which gave no indication of valuing their members; so decided to shop around. I dropped into BHC first; and never left.

What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym?

I used to love free-weight bench presses; at one time touched just short of 300lbs. A little harder now, with some slight arthritis in my shoulder; but I'm careful and use the bench press machine.

Why do you work out?

Part vanity, and part "want to live forever" ;) ; mostly, I just want to be strong and capable right up to my last breath.

What do you do to work out?

I have a regular routine; I focus, and give myself (usually) the goal of at least maintaining, if not increasing over the last workout.

What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals?

It's been very nice having the "after hours"; with my work schedule, regular hours wouldn't work so well, at this time.

Why do you choose to work out at BHC?

Well, it's more or less close; and it's a "one shop" affair; I tire of places that have multiple locations, and lose touch with the humanity of their members.

Anything else you'd like to add?

You might have guessed, I'm a little older; and my job is extremely stressful, working with people suffering from severe mental illness, chemical and criminal backgrounds; I spend a lot of time in shelters, and working with people on the fringes of society.  Even though I currently only work out on weekends, I'm building myself back up from some injuries and a joint replacement, and this gives me the strength to forge ahead. It's been a great part of my life.
