BHC is more than a typical Health Club

3/29/24

Dear Members,

This year, I’m determined to get outside on more bike rides. I’ve been going to Shannon’s 9am cycling class during our typical dreary winter days, which has been great. Now I am looking forward to a nice Seattle spring to start getting the miles on the road in addition to Shannon’s very inspirational classes.

We are proud of what we offer here, at our home base of the Club, with our full-featured gym and studios with our variety of classes. But there are many other things that Ballard Health Club provides:

  • Just down the street, at Leif Erickson Hall, we hold our 10am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Silver Sneakers class that has grown to over 40 people per class at times. This Silver Sneakers class is open to ALL BHC members. The Hall at Leif Erickson is about 3-4 times larger than our studios at the Club, providing plenty of room for all. We have an all-star lineup of class instructors: Marianne Clark (Monday), Karen Gamble (Wednesday), and Ivonne DePauli (Friday).

  • We have a great variety of online classes reaching people anywhere they live. Karen Gamble began our online classes within the month COVID closed us down in 2020. Now it’s a standard and regular offering by BHC with currently 25 classes a week.

  • Yoga in the Park has been a BHC sponsored community event that has been provided to the Ballard community for many years. Sunset Hill is the home for Yoga in the Park from 2021 providing a great setting for your outdoor flow. Look for this to begin in May, with evening sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a morning session on Saturdays.

  • We have a well-established Nutrition Coaching program. This program produced a sold-out workshop recently and now includes the BHC Body Health Program offering. Those involved in the Body Health program have enjoyed a healthy path to a new level of fitness.

  • BHC participates in the Ballard Seafood Feast every July by presenting a dance-based production with lots of audience participation.

  • In the Fall, we have our annual Yoga Retreat in Suncadia that has been held every year since 2014 the first week of November (except for when COVID prevented the retreat in 2020).

As an independent, locally owned, medium-sized health club with just one owner/manager, we can step out of the box of a typical health club.

Enjoy the sunshine – it should be here soon!

Sincerely,

Pat Gilbrough
