  1. How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club? I’ve been a member since pretty much the beginning with several breaks along the way - back in the regular fold for the last 10 years  (I attended lots of great shows at the Backstage in the 90s too!).

  2. What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym? I like the elliptical machines (which I call “Twizzlemasters") for cardio and dumbbells for strength maintenance.

  3. Why do you work out? Maintaining good fitness is essential for me to control my health. Specifically, my body is incredibly efficient at storing energy and I need to stay lean-ish to manage cholesterol and avoid high blood pressure.  I also feel so much more energetic and positive when I work out which improves my work life. And I want to be a good role model for my kids.

  4. What do you do to work out? I do cardio every day and strength training 3-4 times a week. For cardio, when the weather permits, I’m running outside, otherwise I’m on the Twizzlemaster, treadmill or row machine. I strength train at the direction of Mr. Burkey (Jake). He mixes it up.

  5. What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals? I can’t say enough about how much personal training has made the difference in my most recent return to fitness. I am not the best at pushing myself to the point where I can readily see results. Jake has helped me push through to progress towards my goals. Recently, a nutrition consultation (that’s included with the membership!) was a game changer for me in getting past a plateau and progressing towards my weight goal.

  6. Why do you choose to work out at BHC? Beyond the amazing team at BHC, it’s the no nonsense environment. I’m a geek so I like the club’s tech (I’m still waiting for the class schedule to be accessible via Alexa though). I think the cleanliness of the club might go under appreciated.
