Member Spotlight: Zorian Thornton

How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club? 

I’ve been a member for about six years now.

Why do you work out?

I love challenging my mind and body to start every day. I feel at ease and ready to take on the day after an intense workout.

When you are at the gym, what do you do to work out?

I primarily do bodybuilding/hypertrophy focused training, so lots of weight training while focusing on progressive overload each workout. I also love walking on an incline and using the elliptical afterwards for cardio.

What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals?

Keeping it simple. I think finding exercises that I enjoy, and that feel good on my joints have made it a lot easier to focus on just getting better at those specific exercises without worrying too much about switching things up too often.

Why do you choose to work out at BHC?

The people and environment. I’ve made a lot of great friends at BHC because of how friendly and welcoming the community is. I also think the machines and gym layout makes intuitive sense and has just about everything I need to pursue my goals.

What is your favorite piece of equipment, exercise or class to do in the gym or at home? 

About 2 years ago, when I was into powerlifting, I would have never expected to say this… but I love the smith machine. Especially for compound movements like incline bench and squats. It’s really nice to really push sets to failure with less fear of dying under the bar.
