Member Spotlight - Caitlin Olmsted

  1. How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club?

My husband and I joined in the summer of 2020.

  2. What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym?

When I'm on my own, I like to do incline walking. It's enough to get my heart rate up, but easy so I can do other things at the same time like send email or catch up on TV shows.

  3. Why do you work out?

I want to take care of my body so that I'm able to do and enjoy all the other aspects of life for as long as possible, both mentally and physically.

  4. What do you do to work out?

Right now I have two personal training sessions a week along with one group training class each week. Then I'll use the gym on my own to supplement depending on what else I have going on during the week.

  5. What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals?

I've never been good at intrinsically motivating myself so I need the structure of class schedules and appointments to keep me accountable. It also helps because I don't have to think of something to do in the gym, the program is already thought out for me.

  6. Why do you choose to work out at BHC?

I like that it is a locally-owned company and that the staff seem very invested in the success of the club and its members. It also helps that it's a short, two-block walk from home - the convenience can't be beat!

  7. Anything else you'd like to add?

I'm so glad that I met Netto and was able to start training with him in 2020. One of the toughest parts of the pandemic was the disruption in routine and both Netto and BHC have been a really great constant over the last year to help restore a small part of normalcy. I'm grateful for all the thought and care that went into having the gym open to members during that time. This is one part of my life that's different from pre-2020 and it's turned out to be a great new part of post-lockdown life.
