New Beginnings in 2023

January 8, 2023

Dear Members,

Have you ever wanted to try a new class, but felt uncomfortable joining in when you feel like you are the only one who doesn’t know what to do?  If so, we have some opportunities for you in January.  Shannon will start teaching Cycling for Beginners on Friday, January 13 8:30-9:15 am for members who would like to give cycling a try.  I will teach a Yoga for Beginners class on Fridays 4:00-4:45 in January, also starting on Friday the 13th.  You don’t need any experience for these classes.  Feel free to ask  all the questions you may have.  Maybe you will discover a new passion for exercise.

Another new class that we have added to the schedule is Circuit Training with Courtney on Wednesday evenings 5:30-6:15 pm starting on January 11.  You know that Courtney is a terrific cycling instructor.  Please come see what she has to offer in Studio Y.

We are happy to announce that Hattie Quick has returned to us, virtually, of course, to start the year off right. Not only has she gone back to teaching her Silver Plus and Silver Sneakers classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at noon, Hattie has also taken over the Virtual Circuit Strength classes on Monday and Wednesday mornings 8:30-9:15.  Circuit Strength will be our free class in the month of January.  We know that you have missed Hattie, so please take advantage of these opportunities to work out with her.

The remodel of Studio Y continues to offer more opportunities to members.   We experimented with projecting a class in Studio Y in December as planned because some of you have told us that you want that option. We learned that we will need to install two projectors to allow members to take class in the gym when an instructor is teaching virtually to ensure the best possible experience for participants, so please watch for this option on MindBody. We are trying to find the best name for this new type of class that has a virtual instructor with the students being in-studio, so if you have a suggestion, please let me know.  Does In Studio Experience of Virtual Class capture it for you

At instructors’ and students’ request, we are expanding some classes.  MJ’s Virtual Open Yoga will be 10 minutes longer starting on  Tuesday, January 3rd.  This Tuesday/Thursday class will run 10:00-11:10 a.m. to allow more time for a complete practice.  Taylor will also lengthen her Dance Fitness class by 10 minutes on Thursdays.  Starting the class at 6:50 will allow Taylor to introduce the choreography at the beginning of class so that students can move without interruption throughout the class.

Finally, I want to remind you of our upcoming workshops. Katherine Boury will offer a Gratitude Yoga Workshop on Sunday, January 8.    On Saturday, February 11, Gillian Erlich will offer an Ayurveda Workshop.   Karen Gamble will offer a class on Tapping Away Stress on Saturday, February 18.  You can find details about these workshops with this link. www.ballardhealthclub.com/register-events

When you are ready to register, use the MyBHC link to sign up for them on MindBody. These workshops will meet in Studio Y with the exception of Karen’s, which will be offered online with an in-person option.  Remember that non-members can also attend these workshops.  All they need to do is create a profile on MyBHC, so feel free to invite your friends to join you.  I plan to attend these workshops, so maybe I’ll see you at one soon.

We have braved a lot of crazy weather, power outages, and uncertainty during this holiday season.  Here is hoping that the New Year will bring us joy, prosperity, good health, and much love!

With warmest regards,

Marianne Clarke
