What's Old Is New

02/28/2023

Dear Members,

Do you remember when Ballard Health Club used to offer loads of classes at the gym?  Back in the before times?  Well, things are starting to look a lot more like they did in the old days.  We added several new hybrid classes and in-studio classes last month.  We are adding even more this month.

Jenn is starting an early bird in-studio Yoga Flow class on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m in Studio Y.  I am teaching hybrid Power Vinyasa at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.  David Koon is returning to BHC to teach hybrid Open Yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:45 p.m starting on Tuesday, March 7.  One other change is that my virtual Vinyasa Basics class will become a hybrid class and move to Fridays at 5:15 p.m. starting on Friday, March 3.  It will follow Yoga for Beginners at 4:00 p.m.

We are not only adding yoga classes. We are also adding more cycling classes.  Our new instructor, Ann-Marie Dion, will offer cycling classes at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on March 7.  It will be our free class in March.

Courtney’s new in-studio Circuit Training class at 5:30 p.m. has been a big hit.  Studio Y has never been livelier.

Please also watch for announcements about Ivana’s new Sunday Shred class that will start next month.  You can get a preview in March.  It will be a combination of Circuit Class, Barre, and Pilates with “loud, boisterous music,” says Ivana.  She will motivate you to get hot and sweaty in this high intensity class.

Shannon will also add a Body Sculpt class before her cycling classes starting in early April. According to Shannon, “this class is formatted in the most effective way to shred fat while building muscle and endurance.  After a brief cardio/stretch warm-up, you will be guided through a sequence of weight/resistance training using light weights and resistance bands.

You will have fun, work hard and break a sweat!!! – all in 30 minutes, maximizing your time at the gym!”  If you follow this workout with Shannon’s cycling class, you will be set for the day!

Before I close, I want to remind everyone of my Restorative Yoga workshop on Sunday, March 19 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.  Please come and enjoy hands-on adjustments while you relax through a very gentle practice.

The What Is Your Dosha? workshop has been moved to Saturday, April 8 from 3:00-4:30 p.m.  Watch for announcements on Instagram to see when Gillian Ehrlich will come to the gym to share information about ayurveda before the workshop.

Though we will never go back to life before Covid, things are looking a lot more like they used to  when BHC buzzed with lots of folks taking lots of classes and working out together at the gym.  We will continue to offer plenty of virtual classes, too, because we want all of our members to meet their individual fitness goals in the way that suits them best. I know that my letter just reads like a long list of classes this month, but I can’t help it.  I am really excited about them.

.Warmly,

Marianne Clarke
Class Director
