Mateo has studied and practiced yoga within the Ballard Community for over 3 years. During this time, he has explored a variety of yoga styles including: Power Vinyasa, Bikram, Yin Yoga, and Acro-yoga.
Mateo is certified in the Power Vinyasa teaching style of Yoga. He was drawn to Power Vinyasa for the vigorous workout and for the powerful meditative states that can be achieved during the sequences. Mateo used the practice of Power Vinyasa to overcome a life-threatening illness, and he attributes the overcoming of this obstacle to the healing power of the 8-Limbs philosophy.
Mateo endeavors to create a safe and meditative space for people to work on overcoming their own obstacles; all the while, finding joy and levity in yoga practice. Mateo creates sequences that are accessible to all ages and abilities, and he offers modifications to meet the needs of the student. Mateo first began his yogic journey, as a student, at BHC, so it is no surprise that he came full-circle to share his teachings at BHC.
